The causes of metabolic acidosis are dilutional acidosis, shift of hydrogen from the cell, increased bicarbonate consumption or los and renal acidosis. In general, the patients of pituitary tumor encountered prolonged operation with general
anesthesia
and head-up position about 30 degrees for TSA. In these patients, metabolic acidosis could be developed by several factors, including dilutional acidosis by rapid infusion of fluid, compensatory metabolic acidosis due to respiratory alkalosis and
lactic
acidosis due to cardiovascular instability.
In Dong-A University Hospital, we experienced 4 cases of metabolic acidosis during TSA, We reviewed the cases and suggested the way of preventing metabolic acidosis.
